Get Ready: Bitcoin's Fourth Halving Just Days Away
Halving Event Anticipated, BTC Soars Above $70,000
Prepare for the highly anticipated event in Bitcoin's history - the fourth halving is scheduled for April 2024. With the price of BTC surging past $70,000, excitement is building around this milestone. So, what does the halving mean, and why does it matter?
Understanding the Halving
The Bitcoin halving refers to the scheduled reduction in the issuance rate of new Bitcoin. It occurs every 210,000 blocks mined, or approximately every four years. During a halving event, the reward for miners for each block they solve is cut in half.
The first halving occurred in 2012, reducing the reward from 50 BTC to 25 BTC. Since then, two more halvings have taken place, each decreasing the reward further. The most recent halving, in 2020, cut the reward to 6.25 BTC.
The upcoming fourth halving will bring the reward down to 3.125 BTC per block.
